Tulcingo Restaurant & Bakery 5520 5th Ave. (Between 55th and 56th Street in Sunset Park) Brooklyn, NY 11220 718.439.2896

There is something to be said about a place that serves cactus tacos… you know you’re in for a treat. The thing about cosmopolitan places like NYC is you can transport yourself to another country in a matter of minutes, and Tulcingo Restaurant & Bakery in Sunset Park is just that, another country and accepts all major credit cards. They even do catering for special events and can make you a wedding cake.

This place serves breakfast, seafood, entrees, and of course tacos. Tacos cost $2.25 with beef tongue and barbacoa tacos priced at $2.50. I ordered Tacos de asada and washed it down with an Eh-squirt (Squirt), my taco came with guacamole (always a plus) and was gone in less than 60 seconds.

What’s the scene like? Don’t expect a table cloth, it’s no frills.

Train: Take the N or the R into Brooklyn and get off at 59th street and 4th ave. Walk one Avenue over to 5th Ave and walk down 3 and 1/2 blocks.

THE FIRST TIME I ATE HERE I WAS HUNG OVER AND I COULDN'T EAT MUCH. BUT IT WAS FAST WHEN I ORDERED FOR DELIVERY AND THE GUY WAS NICE. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I FELT BETTER I DECIDED TO ORDER AGAIN THIS TIME WITH A FULL APPETITE I DECIDED TO ADD THE EXTRAS ON MY TACOS LIKE SOUR CREAM, A LOT OF CHEESE A LOT OF GUAC, AVOCADO ETC. THE GUYW AS LIKE YOU WANT A LOT MORE YOU HAVE TO PAY A LOT MORE AND I WAS OKAY WITH THAT. WHEN I HAVE A TASTE FOR SOMETHING I DON'T MIND BEING CHARGED MORE IF I AM ASKING FOR MORE AS LONG AS IT COMES OUT TO HOW I WANT IT. WHEN IT CAME I WAS CHARGED THE EXTRA BUT DIDN'T GET THE EXTRA SO WHEN I CALLED BACK I ASKED THE GUY FOR MY SOUR CREAM GUAC AND AVOCADO AND HE WAS LIKE GUAC AND AVOCADO ARE THE SAME THING WHICH TO ME IN MY EYES IS NOT I LIKE PIECES OF AVOCADO IN MY TACOS AND GUAC POURED ALL OVER IT AS WELL. LIKE I SAID I DON'T MIND PAYING WHATEVER YOU CHARGE FOR MY DIFFICULTY AS LONG AS IT'S DONE RIGHT. I DON'T REALLY SEE THE PROBLEM IS I AM PAYING FOR IT BUT ANYWAY HE SENT THE DELIVERY GUY TO DELIVER A SMALL SAUCE CONTAINER HALF FULL OF SOUR CREAM AND HALL FULL OF GUAC WHICH WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR NOT EVEN ONE TACO AND A PIECE OF CHICKEN FELL OUT WHEN I WAS POURING THE GUAC INTO MY STEAK TACO AND AT THAT POINT I JUST WASNT HUNGRY NO MORE. SO FOR $2.25 A TACO PLUS $1 EXTRA WAS NOT WORTH ANYTHING. HE COULD HAVE CHARGED ME $5 EACH TACO AS LONG AS HE GOT IT RIGHT AND I WOULD'VE ORDERED EVERYDAY SINCE I AM A TACO FREAK. WHICH I MUST SAY I WOULD THINK IF SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY $5 FOR A SMALL TACO JUST HAVE TO THROW IN SOME EXTRA STUFF IS NOT A BAD DEAL FOR THE BUSINESS PERSON'S END BUT WHATEVER. I EVEN ASKED HIM TO NOT GET HEAVY HANDED ON THE STEAK I'M NOT TOO BIG ON MEAT I JUST LIEK A LITTLE BIT BUT OFCOURSE I GOT TONS OF MEAT AND LITTLE IF ANY OF EVERYTHING ELSE.

Is this restaurant related to the Tulcingo Del Valle restaurant on 10th Ave in Manhattan?

It's just a block away from Tehuitzingo, but I think TDV is better.

I've been to quite a few Mexican places throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, I think TDV is one of the best. (Tortilleria Nixtamal in Corona is another great place.) The carnitas tacos and tortas are really top notch at TDV, and I also like the chorizo con huevo.

What a disappointment!!! As I was moving from the city to Brooklyn I stopped by Tulcingo Del Valle Restaurant in midtown and asked if they were the same and I was assured it wasn't. Being skeptical I decided to give it a shot and try my favorite, tacos al pastor..... unedible!!! Completely greasy & Stale!! Tried their Orchata and it was nasty..... Just simply lost my appetite!!! Sorry but it was really a waste of money & time!!! If you really want good authentic Mexican food you won't regret going to Tulcingo Del Valle Restaurant on 665 10th ave right off Times Square... THEY truly are the real deal!!!!
